Disc Fest (the 2nd) Coming Soon!

Last year was the inaugural run of disc_fest, an anonymous (gen, het, and slash) fest designed to encourage the creation of fiction and art based on characters from Terry Pratchett's wonderful Discworld series.

The Fest was great fun (the Master List can be seen here on Dreamwidth and here on LiveJournal), and it seems only right to bring it back for another go.

Basic Disc Fest Information:

* Mirror communities have been set up on LiveJournal and Dreamwidth (I'd encourage everybody to subscribe to both communities if possible, but all fic and art will be posted to both comms when the time comes)

*Starting Friday, the 11th of May, posts will be made on both communities , soliciting prompts for this year's Fest. Note: you do not have to be a member of the community, nor do you have to participate to leave prompts.

*All prompts will be collected and organized for a Claiming Post, scheduled for May 25 (i.e., the Glorious 25th of May!)

*Prompts can be claimed from 25 May through 1 June, 2012 - and all prompts will be available to artists and authors alike.

*The deadline to submit all Fic and Art is 20 July, 2012, and the header all participants need to use is here ( under the cut )

*29 July, 2012: Disc Fest goes live!

*5 August: Authors and Artists names will be revealed.

Summary: During his travels through Überwald on the Grand Sneer, young Havelock and his guide find themselves a little lost and off track. (Though perhaps not purposefully, if Vetinari has had anything to do with it.) They seek shelter and assistance at the nearest castle as the night draws in, which turns out to be the residence of one Lady Margolotta.
Artist's Notes: I think the first thing that pops into most peoples' heads when they think of Havelock on the Grand Sneer is his meeting with Margolotta - perhaps because no other details of his journeys are given to us? Anyway, I chose this meeting as the subject of my sketch.
Thinking also back to Hammer horror films, upon which a lot of Überwald is based, I thought the scenario of travellers lost in the woods and seeking shelter at those oh-so-inviting castles would be a fun notion to turn on its head. (Except, of course, I can see Havelock using this as an excuse rather than a reason to intrude upon a personage such as Margolotta.)
I looked into the Roundworld equivalent of the Sneer - the "Grand Tour" - for inspiration, too. Young men would be assisted by a guide on their journeys, so I threw in a poor soul to travel with young Havelock. This guide would have to attempt, in all futility, to advise young Vetinari on where to go, what to see, and how to behave. (Rather him than me.) Also it is said that some men would not risk travelling over the less accessible tracks and roads to more remote locales, but I doubt that kind of thing would stop our Havelock, hence him moving out into the Überwaldian wilderness...
