ART: "A Pleasure To Meet You" (Havelock Vetinari, Lady Margolotta)

Artist: [personal profile] jurious
Title: A Pleasure To Meet You
Characters and/or Pairing(s): Havelock Vetinari, Lady Margolotta
Rating: G
Medium : Graphite pencil sketch
Possible warnings and/or enticements - highlight to view (may contain spoilers): *None.*
Summary: During his travels through Überwald on the Grand Sneer, young Havelock and his guide find themselves a little lost and off track. (Though perhaps not purposefully, if Vetinari has had anything to do with it.) They seek shelter and assistance at the nearest castle as the night draws in, which turns out to be the residence of one Lady Margolotta.
Artist's Notes: I think the first thing that pops into most peoples' heads when they think of Havelock on the Grand Sneer is his meeting with Margolotta - perhaps because no other details of his journeys are given to us? Anyway, I chose this meeting as the subject of my sketch.
Thinking also back to Hammer horror films, upon which a lot of Überwald is based, I thought the scenario of travellers lost in the woods and seeking shelter at those oh-so-inviting castles would be a fun notion to turn on its head. (Except, of course, I can see Havelock using this as an excuse rather than a reason to intrude upon a personage such as Margolotta.)
I looked into the Roundworld equivalent of the Sneer - the "Grand Tour" - for inspiration, too. Young men would be assisted by a guide on their journeys, so I threw in a poor soul to travel with young Havelock. This guide would have to attempt, in all futility, to advise young Vetinari on where to go, what to see, and how to behave. (Rather him than me.) Also it is said that some men would not risk travelling over the less accessible tracks and roads to more remote locales, but I doubt that kind of thing would stop our Havelock, hence him moving out into the Überwaldian wilderness...

Terrific. There is something in the young man's eyes that shows us just why he will do so well at the Guild of Assassins later. And Margolotta is just the right mix of haughty and very interested, indeed.

Wow that's a great drawing!

I really like Vetinari's eye as he's looking up at her, it's very... hmm... in danish I would say 'full of expression' but I'm not certain that's really what I mean in english, if you know what I mean. I also really like the horses and the details on the guide and the ankle area of their boots.

This is so beautifully drawn and vividly imagined, with an amazing level of detail. Everyone has such character, from the disreputable looking groom, to Havelock being dashing and Margolotta looking haughty, and even the horses are great. Excellent work!
